Tuesday LTP: The Hunger Games!

If you haven't already figured out by my lack of posting (I missed Meatless Monday!), things have been a bit crazy around here. In fact, things have been so crazy that I managed to lock my entire bag, complete with keys, wallet, and lunch, in my car when I got to work this morning (thankfully, I caught Mario before he left for work and he was able to come downtown & rescue me with the spare key). Oy.

On the bright side, the craziness isn't *all* negative - some of it is just the fallout of an extremely packed (and fun!) weekend. If you're my friend on facebook, you already know that I am obsessed with all things The Hunger Games... and I know I'm not the only one (in fact, judging from my Facebook feed, I would say you're in the minority if you're not!).

I'm currently in love with the Cupcakes on Fire from fictional food. Seriously, how awesome are these cupcakes?! I really think I'm going to have to make some for the Catching Fire premier (because I'm just a big nerd like that). Oooh, maybe I should I have HG party with food from the books. Perhaps some Lamb Stew with Dried Plums and Bone-Pickin' Big Game Soup? Thanks to The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook, that's definitely a possibility! :-)

Today's poll: Did you see The Hunger Games? If so, did you read the books beforehand and were you pleased/displeased with how it played out on screen? What did you think about the casting (especially Peeta)?

*Needless to say, there will be spoilers in the comments... don't read them if you haven't seen the movie & don't want to know anything!

  1. Loved, loved, loved the movie. Yes they missed a few things but how could you get it ALL in within a 2-2.5 hour time frame?

I think the boys could've been flip-flopped. I would much rather watch Liam... ya know what I mean? (Miley is a lucky lil' beeotch)

Woody was amazing. His character could've been a teensy more dispicable, but overall he did great.

And Lenny? No need for explanation. I sighed every time he was on screen. That man... ummm.... yeah.

    Love the cupcake idea!

  2. @Marni: Yeah, I feel the same - while there were some definite misses, they did a fairly good job of including as much as possible. Really, I think it was one of the better book adaptations I've seen in quite awhile.

I'm still iffy about Peeta - while Josh Hutcherson wasn't a terrible choice, I don't think he was the best one. He really is no match for Gale!

Lenny? Oh holy hell. Someone on facebook referred to him as Yummy Kravitz. I've decided that is officially his new name. ;-)

  3. Planning to see it this weekend; read the books not too long ago.

  4. Lenny was perfect. Exactly how I imagine Cinna to be/act etc. I saw the movie Sat but wasn't fully finished with the book (not like I didn't know how it would end). Finished book yesterday. My biggest compliant is casting or things left out or anything like that but rather that how it was shot made me very ill/dizzy and took away from the movie. I understand that style of shooting is very popular now but it caused me to look away several times. Listening to the crowd go "ooooh" every time they showed Gale watching the games cracked me up.

  5. @Danielle: Get on it! :-) I was planning on waiting because I didn't want to deal with the crowds, but we hit up an early afternoon show on Friday. The theater was half empty, which suited me quite well.

@Sarah W: Yes! I really cannot picture a more perfect Cinna... well, unless it's Cinna with less clothing. ;-) I totally understand the shaky film thing - it doesn't bother me, but it's still quite noticeable. I'm sure it's really unpleasant for people who get that movie motion sickness.
