I hate raisins. I think they are one of the most horrid things you can eat - it doesn't matter if they're freshly plumped, buried in baked goods, or straight out of the box. They are ALL disgusting. They don't taste like the sweet delicious grape, nor do they taste like wine... they're just chewy balls of ickiness.
I am of the firm belief that raisins should not be in anything. If there are raisins, the dish is automatically ruined - and don't tell me to just pick them out because the raisin essence never completely goes away (especially if they're warm - that's when they're at their peak of disgustingness). There are far too many crazy people in the world who think it's a good idea to add raisins to places where they don't belong (namely cookies, carrot cake, muffins, cinnamon bread, oatmeal, and trail mix). If the crazies want to eat those nasty little pellets on their own, then so be it, but don't ruin my food!

Today's LTP: How do you feel about
LOL! I love raisins--they're the perfect snack! :)
ReplyDeleteRaisins are delicious!
ReplyDeleteI usually agree with you on the yuck foods, but this time you're way off. HaHa. Love, love love me some raisins!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind raisins, but I hate not knowing when they are in a food. For instance, Starbucks serves a what they call a whole grain bagel. Well, it has raisins in it, therefore should be called a whole grain raisin bagel.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of raisins in any of my foods!!! I will eat them once in a blue moon all by themselves from the box - but I agree with you, they don't belong in any of the dishes people tend to put them in, yuck!!
ReplyDeleteBear may be demented. But I do love raisins! In many things. Like oatmeal cookies, and salads, and trail mix, and. . . .
ReplyDeleteI don't want to get into a food fight with you, but thanks of raisin the issue.
Raisins. Good. Starr. Bad.
ReplyDeleteNoooo! What is wrong with you people?! Raisins are BAD NEWS!
ReplyDeleteLol. I LOVE this post! I'm not a huge fan of raisins either. I used to HATE when my mom put them in my lunch. I've come a little ways though... there are a few dishes that I like them in or cookies and granola bars.
ReplyDeleteI literally just bought raisins yesterday. It's an easy snack. (Not my favorite snack, but healthier than some alternatives.) I don't want them in everything though. And when it comes to oatmeal raisin cookies, they better be REALLY good cookies. I don't think I have them in much else.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree: raisins are extremely disappointing. Especially because they're hard to tell apart from chocolate chips, which is what you actually want in cookies.
ReplyDeleteI love this post and I love raisins too. Guess this just means there are more for me.
ReplyDeleteThey are disgusting GRAPE CORPSES.
ReplyDelete@Kendra: HAHAHAHA! That is fantastic!!
ReplyDeletei like raisins on their own but will pick them out of cookies, muffins or any kind of dessert. query: when you have a recipe that contains raisins do you skip them or substitute? and if you do sub. what do you use?
ReplyDeleteI prefer prunes, er, plums.
ReplyDelete@Anon: It depends - it's a bready dish, I'll skip them, but in cookies and such, I'll usually substitute with craisins. It's not a textural thing, but rather the taste - craisins are the perfect replacement!
ReplyDeleteI don't detest them to the level you do but my philosophy about raisins is that I'd rather not. There are some apple desserts that include raisins (strudel, for example) where the raisins are such a part of the authentic taste that you can't leave them out. But I do agree that I don't want them anywhere near my cookies!
