Tuesday LTP: Autumn!

2012 Harvest Bonfire at
Wagner Farm
I say it every year, but I think it's always worth repeating: I ♥♥♥ fall! I especially love October, as it is filled with so many of my favorite things. Many people consider spring to be their season of personal renewal; they feel revived and ready to take on the world. That's how I feel about autumn. It just feels damn good to be alive!

In honor of the start of October (which, in my mind, is the true start of fall), here are some of my favorite things about the season:
  • honey crisp apples!
  • it's the perfect time to wear long sleeve v-neck t-shirts, jeans, cute boots with chunky heels, hoodies & sweaters
  • the crunch of leaves underfoot
  • the smell of wet leaves
  • cool, crisp mornings
  • fall festivals
  • the gorgeous colors!
  • Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks
  • perfect hiking weather
  • apple cider donuts & pumpkin donuts
  • sunny days with a chilly breeze
  • comfort food weather (turkey chili!)
  • two of my favorite holidays: Halloween & my birthday :-)
  • apple picking
  • caramel apples
  • the smell of cinnamon & cloves
  • pumpkin farms & pumpkin carving
  • pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin, pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins... pumpkin everything!
  • awesome Halloween decorations
  • drinking hot apple cider outside at night
  • standing outside on a chilly & clear night and looking at the stars
  • sleeping without AC or the heat with the window cracked just enough to let in the breeze
  • Harvest bonfires
  • lovely afternoon light streaming through the trees
The first of many gorgeous October afternoons
I'm so happy it's that time of year again! :-)

Today's Lunchtime Poll: What are your favorite things about autumn/October? What seasonal activities are you looking forward to the most this month? Do you have any favorite autumn desserts or comfort foods?

  3. I love Thanksgiving too! And everything that you listed, plus lots and lots of roasted marshmallows! :)

  4. I absolutely love the spicy, warm smells associated with autumn... apple-cinnamon specifically. I tend to love apple-cinnamon-ey desserts/muffins/breads. And while red wine is always a constant, no matter the season, I start having a desire for spicier cordials/cocktails during the season, too.

  5. In autumn everything feels, smells and sounds crisp. It's like the entire season has an undercurrent of electricity and energy. Snap, crackle, pop!

  6. I love the return of baking season, all the seasonal fruits, having a reason to drink hot tea, and the visible change of the season (leaves turning, trees loosing leaves at different rates, the sun/moon rise). The only thing I *don't* like are the bees!

  8. I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin, but I love spaghetti squash, which is starting to become available now. Other fall foods: twice-baked potatoes, veg chili, cornbread, veg stroganoff with egg or spinach noodles, roasted veg, omelets with fall mushrooms, beer bread.

  13. Harvest bonfires? Now I feel like I've been missing out on something my whole life! I love absolutely everything about fall, with the exception of dark mornings. We have the Balloon Fiesta which is so beautiful and I love the way the air feels. Definitely my favorite time of year. Happy early(?) birthday!
